All Cottages and Lodge Suites have luxury finishes and furnishings, have sweeping views of the valley up to the Magaliesburg Mountains and are situated in luxurious gardens teeming with a variety of bird life. 88 bird species have been identified together with numerous LBJ's. A bird watching hide is situated overlooking the Crocodile River which runs through the reserve. The Rhenosterspruit Nature Reserve is stocked with numerous antelope including Kudu, Wildebeest, Mountain Reedbuck, Duiker, Blesbuck, Eland, Impala, Giraffe and Zebra. Animals can be viewed from your veranda, on foot from numerous footpaths which meander over the mildly undulating open veldt with riverine growth along the river banksor on private game drives. You could also hear the Lions roar in the distance. For the more scientifically minded visitor there are interesting rock formations, visits to the Sterkfontein Caves, where the oldest human skull, that of Mrs Ples (Australopithecus) was discovered and more recently the almost complete skeleton of "Little Bigfoot", a 3.3million year old ape-man, and the oldest gold mine on the Witwatersrand. The "Cradle of Humankind" world heritage site of which we are part, is rich in interesting attractions and boasts several game reserves among which is the Lion & Rhino park, and several caves such as Sterkfontein and Wonder Cave. For the sports enthusiast there are several golf courses nearby, tennis, water skiing, jet-ski riding, hot air ballooning, micro light flights, Quad bike rides, Paintball and fresh water Fly fishing. Hartebeespoort dam is twenty minutes away and has many attractions such as a large African Craft market where many hours can be wiled away bargain hunting for that special memento of your visit to our world. To cater for the inner man there are a myriad restaurants in the area catering for all tastes. There are many art galleries in the area. Spa and beauty treatments available upon request. Henry & Jay Barnard, your hosts, will make every effort to make your stay as peaceful or as exciting as you want it to be. |
